Volunteer Opportunities

If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities in Canton, Ohio, Refuge of Hope has many ways you can make a difference. Learn how individuals and organizations can be a part of our meaningful and rewarding work!
Meal Service

Help us meet a critical need by plating and serving food as well as cleaning and resetting tables. We provide dinner Monday through Friday from 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. and lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Volunteer times are 4:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and 10:15a.m. – 12:30 a.m.

  • Individuals: Simply submit a volunteer application. Please indicate if you wish to be added to an existing service group.
  • Groups: We welcome volunteer groups of up to 15 people. To make arrangements, please contact Vanessa at volunteer@refugeofhope.org or 330-453-1785.


*Must be at least 15 years old to serve in the meal ministry.

Meal Prep – Volunteer hours must be scheduled by calling U-Londa at 330-453-1785. Duties include preparing lunch and dinner, setting tables, washing dishes, plating desserts, and taking in donations between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30p.m.

Sort Donations

Join us Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. or Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to organize donations of clothing, linens, and personal care items for our residents.

Assist Guests During Clothing Giveaway

Volunteers serve as personal shoppers helping guests find needed items in the Clothing Ministry Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. All items are provided by Refuge of Hope because of generous donations of new and gently used items.

Other Ways To Make An Impact

  • Set up a display table at your church to present Refuge of Hope’s rescue mission information and an urgently needed items list.
  • Host a canned food, hygiene product, socks, or underwear drive on Sunday morning at church or your workplace.
  • Plan a project for youth volunteers like sock or glove drives or coloring place mats for dinner guests.
  • Make yourself available during dinner to pray one-on-one with guests and shelter residents in need of a prayer partner.
  • Hold a Fundraiser for a specific need or general operations.
  • Host a Game Night or Special Snack for up to 66 men who reside at our shelter.
  • Build community awareness by following Refuge Of Hope on Facebook and sharing posts with your friends.
  • Bring a group in for a tour of our rescue mission and enjoy a meal with our dinner guests.
  • Help us deep clean inside and out. We often need large project teams of up to 15 people to get the job done.
